a.you had better study instead of playing football.是正確的.study和play 均為動詞，had better後要跟v原形
b.he went to borrow the book instead of to buy it. 這裡of後面相當於省略了going
c.as he was ill,「i」 went to the meeting instead of 「him」. 前後一致，正確
d.you should be in the room instead of the garden. 這裡of後面的in是不能少的，要與前面的in the room相對應
